Needs Statement

SMART Recovery tools use evidence-based methods that have been proven to be more successful than harsh interventions or complete detachment, but are often not recommended by healthcare professionals when advising clients on mutual help groups. SMART Recovery tools equip families and friends of a person with an addiction disorder to develop more effective coping strategies that can increase the chances that the person will seek long-term recovery.

Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Social Workerss

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Explain the SMART Recovery Four Point System
• Describe specific SMART tools that can be useful to build motivation, cope with irrational beliefs, manage emotions, and living a balanced life
• Discuss ways to engage family & friends to utilizing the SMART tools
