Harm reduction practices can reduce the risk of illness or injury among people who use drugs. Formal settings such as healthcare, corrections, or recovery and treatment programs can be opportunities for conversations about harm reduction.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the history and philosophy of harm reduction as related to drug use
• Articulate benefits and challenges of harm reduction and preventative medicine practices in formal healthcare settings
• Employ specific harm reduction interventions for different routes of administration and different substances
