Needs Statement

Overdose deaths per 100,000 people occur at a higher rate with the Black/Non-Hispanic and American Indian, Alaska Natives than with White/Non-Hispanic group.  Culturally responsive services are crucial to address disparities in access and perceived benefit for addiction treatment in marginalized communities

Target Audience

Peer Support specialists, Care Navigators, Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Social Workers 

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Summarize racial inequities in the treatment of substance use disorders
• Review drug policies that influenced the criminalization of substance use
• Provide strategies for assessing and treating substance use disorders in racial and ethnic minoritized communities
