Needs Statement

Patients with opioid use disorder have a disability that is protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), yet few patient care providers or patients are aware of what the protections are or how to file a case for an ADA violation. This talk will serve as a primer to explain how to advocate for increased access to medications for opioid use disorder and decrease in health inequities using the ADA.

Peer Support Specialists, Care Navigators, Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Social Workers 

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
2. Review evidence-based treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) with medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD)
3. Apply the ADA to patients with OUD
4. Discuss landmark settlements with public entities to ensure ADA compliance for patients with OUD
