Needs Statement

Opioid use disorder among pregnant and postpartum women and infants is a complex public health challenge. This presentation shares current initiatives and best practices for preventing misuse and improving care.

Target Audience

Healthcare professionals interested in successful quality improvement initiatives that could be implemented in delivery hospitals.

Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

• Describe trends in opioid use among pregnant women and neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome
• Describe how social determinants of health affect disparities in outcomes for mothers and infants
• List state-level strategies for preventing maternal opioid misuse and harm
• Discuss essential elements for implementing population-level perinatal improvement projects
