Needs Statement
Health care providers have limited knowledge about oral cancer. As a result they are often not screening for oral cancer. Outside of dentistry, most providers do not look at the oral cavity for disease, beyond the pharynx. Most providers do not discuss oral cancer signs/symptoms, risk factors and how to mitigate risk with their patients. This module will help with this need.Target Audience
Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Dentists and Dental HygienistsObjectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:- Describe the risk factors for oral cancer
- Describe common signs and symptoms of oral cancer
- Explain an oral cancer screening exam
- Discuss oral cancer cases and the trajectory of care from diagnosis to recovery
- Discuss the role of different health care providers in caring for patients throughout the course of oral cancer treatment
