Needs Statement

The Kentucky Perinatal Quality Collaborative (KyPQC) and Kentucky Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Task Force (KyMMM TF) utilizes the platform of the annual meeting to provide education in clinical practice guidelines, profile evidence-based processes of care, and highlight ancillary care services that support improvements in clinical outcomes. Further, this annual meeting will emphasize the importance of linking critical social support and clinical community resources to patients identified in the perinatal care setting based on individual needs. Presentations are peer-reviewed, and the credentials of the speakers are heavily vetted.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to:
1. Recognize the importance of cross-disciplinary care teams in the perinatal care setting to support acute, continuous, and comprehensive care during pregnancy and postpartum.
2. Apply and support data-driven, evidence-based standard practice to improve perinatal health outcomes (AIM Bundles).
3. Express the importance of perinatal screening programs to identify opportunities to provide care for substance use disorder, mental health conditions, and newborn health conditions in various care settings.
4. Demonstrate principles of respectful, supportive, and equitable care.
5. Highlight and support basic needs and perinatal assistance programs.

Target Audience

This course targets physicians, midwives, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses, community health workers, peer support specialists, social workers, doulas, emergency medical technicians, pharmacists, public health officials, and dentists.
