Co-Chairs

Vincent Sorrell, MD, FACC, FACP

 
Dr. Sorrell was recruited to UK in 2011 to develop the Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Program at UKH and the GHVI and was honored with the investiture of the first and only Anthony N. DeMaria Endowed Professorship. 
 
During his 10+ years at UK, the ACI program has become nationally recognized as one of the top clinical, research, and training program in the US and they currently perform 2000 exams / year. 
 
He was the Program Director for the Cardiology Fellowship Training Program for 7 years and currently holds the Chief Position for the Division of CV Medicine.  
 
Among his many achievements, he holds Fellowships from the ACC, the SCMR, the SCCT, and the ASE and was awarded an honorary fellowship from the American College of Physicians. 
 
He has published over 250 peer-reviewed scientific abstracts and papers, 40 book chapters, 3 textbooks, numerous electronic educational materials, and he annually writes board examination questions and ACCSAP materials. He was fundamental in the creation of the Critical Care Echocardiography Review Course jointly sponsored by the SCCM and the ASE. He is a founding member of the CCE Council for the ASE and currently serves on committees assigned to preparing new guideline documents for POCUS Nomenclature and Standardization of Adult Echo Reporting and is a member of the new Publications Committee for ASE.  
 
He has been involved with education throughout his career, serving as the Associate Program Director or Program Director for Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Advanced CV Imaging Fellowship Programs for 25 years. He received the highest teaching award from the ASE when he was awarded the 10th annual Richard Popp Award in 2010 for Education and Mentorship. 
 
His work has involved pioneering efforts in contrast echocardiography, 3-dimensional echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, 1st-generation Cardiovascular MRI and Cardiac CT, robotic and minimally invasive valve surgery and more. 
 
He is a lifetime member of Who's Who in America, Best Physicians in America, and the prestigious Association of University Cardiologists. He has over 12.5K followers on Twitter and is the Editor-in-Chief for CASE: CV Imaging Journal of the ASE. He was recently awarded the course director leadership track for the Annual Echo Florida Program. 

 

Moneera Haque, MD, PhD

Dr. Haque brings innovation and unwavering dedication to this year’s TF Whayne Cardiovascular Symposium as Co-Chair. A passionate advocate for Preventive Cardiology, Dr. Haque seamlessly integrates this critical focus across every facet of the tripartite mission of academic cardiology—education, research, and patient care—transforming the future of cardiovascular health.

Dr. Haque’s career in medicine began at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She went on to complete her Internal Medicine Residency at Georgetown University, followed by a Cardiology Fellowship at Loyola University. Now serving as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology.

Dr. Haque continues her commitment to Preventive Cardiology.

Dr. Haque is deeply committed to teaching the next generation of cardiologists, guiding residents and fellows with a patient-centered approach to cardiovascular prevention. Their influence extends beyond the classroom, serving as a mentor to aspiring students, instilling a foundation of excellence and innovation in those who will lead the field in the years to come.

In the realm of research, Dr. Haque is at the forefront of groundbreaking projects, including EXCEL HeartLens, a pioneering initiative aimed at advancing early detection and intervention strategies for cardiovascular disease. Through this and other ongoing studies, Dr. Haque is committed to shaping the future of preventive cardiology, ensuring that research findings translate into real-world clinical applications that improve patient outcomes.

As a practicing cardiologist, Dr. Haque embodies the principles of preventive care, empowering patients with evidence-based strategies to mitigate cardiovascular risk factors, optimize heart health, and enhance longevity. Her commitment to patient-centered care underscores a philosophy that prevention is not merely an aspect of cardiology—it is the foundation of long-term wellness.

As Co-Chair of this year’s TF Whayne Cardiovascular Symposium, Dr. Haque is poised to help shape a transformative conversation on Preventive Cardiology, reinforcing its role as the cornerstone of modern cardiovascular medicine.
