The use of opiates during pregnancy can result in a drug withdrawal syndrome in newborns called neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), which causes lengthy and costly hospital stays. These activities will help providers look beyond addiction as a chronic, relapsing, treatable disease and get past seeing the patient as someone who made poor choices.
This training has been approved by the KBML as meeting the statutory requirements of HB1.
