The majority of children have experienced at least one traumatic event by age 16. Adolescents who are experiencing traumatic stress need supportive environments and instruction. This module will illustrate how to create an environment where a student who is experiencing traumatic stress can feel safe and learn. 

Adolescents can become agitated and lose the ability to regulate their emotions and behavior in the moment for a variety of reasons. How adults respond can influence the adolescent’s behavior. This module will illustrate how to and how not to respond to an adolescent who is agitated. The escalation/de-escalation cycle will be illustrated and described.
