These educational activities are designed to educate, train and mentor healthcare providers currently treating or interested in enhancing their learning on managing nicotine withdrawal and tobacco dependence in their specific patient population. The modules focus on the following practice specialties: Cardiovascular, General Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, and Trauma/Orthopedics. You must complete the overview and at least one of the specialty modules to earn continuing education credit and to access the eLearning Community. You may exit and return to the activity at any time.
Research Participation
As part of the evaluation process, we ask that you complete a brief consent prior to participating in these learning activities. The purpose of the research is to collect and analyze aggregate data on current practices of providing tobacco dependence treatment and to evaluate the effectiveness of this educational module in shaping practice over time. Your participation is voluntary and we would encourage you to complete both the consent and brief survey to help us in the analysis of this project and to guide future endeavors.
About the Enduring Materials
The modules are designed to be taken in 2 parts: The initial module (about 60 minutes in length) provides a general overview of managing nicotine withdrawal in persons with medical illness. The second module (from 30-60 minutes in length) will be selected based on your specific area of clinical interest. These are presented by practicing cardiology, general surgery, neurology, oncology, and trauma/orthopedic surgery physicians and are designed to provide tailored and practical information from their perspective as providers. Completion of both modules (general plus your selected specialty module) is required to obtain the full amount of continuing education credit.
About the eLearning Community
Interact with your colleagues and course faculty in an online forum to discuss issues relevant to your continued learning. For six months after you complete the module, an eLearning Community will be available to you. Questions, comments and discussion related to the course content or issues of concern in your clinical practice are welcomed. The eLearning forum will be moderated by the faculty presenters.
