Biosketch
Dr. Lowell Anthony is medical oncologist with a focus on gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine neoplasms and supportive care. He is a Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology and on the staff of the Markey Cancer Center. Dr. Anthony received his undergraduate degree from King College, Bristol, Tennessee and his medical and postgraduate training in medical oncology and clinical pharmacology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Dr. Anthony is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, he was a Professor of Medicine at LSUHSC in New Orleans.
A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Anthony is an active member of several professional organizations. He served on Committees with the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and he is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Federation of Medical Research. He is also a member of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, a founding member and on the board of directors of the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) for 5 years. Dr. Anthony is also listed among the “Best Doctors” in the U.S. for the last 6 years.
Dr Anthony has served as Chairman of the Cancer Committee for the Medical Center of Louisiana Hospital Cancer Program, the Advisory Board for the General Clinical Research Center, member of the Chandler Medical Center’s cancer committee, Co-chair of he Markey Cancer Center’s Protocol and Review Committee. His work has appeared in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Italian Journal of Gastroenterology, Cancer Research, Clinical Pharmacology Therapeutics, the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, the American Journal of Surgery, the Journal of Nuclear Medicine and the Annals of Internal Medicine. He has written and co-authored many book chapters, abstracts, and audiovisual media. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Cancer among other publications. He has been a guest lecturer at numerous national and international scientific forums.
