Biosketch
Dr. Mirza received his medical degree from the Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC) in Karachi, Pakistan,
and then completed neurosurgery residency at the University of Kentucky. Following residency, he received
subspecialty fellowship training in adult and pediatric epilepsy surgery, as well as adult brain tumors, at the
Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI), McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. He was also a visiting fellow in
pediatric epilepsy surgery at the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for Children in London, England.
Dr. Mirza currently serves as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology, and the Director of Adult &
Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery at the University of Kentucky. In his practice, Dr. Mirza focuses on the surgical treatment
of refractory epilepsy, brain tumors and skull base pathologies, and pediatric neurosurgical diseases. He also serves
as the Neurosurgery medical student clerkship and advanced development director. His research is directed
towards epilepsy surgery and brain tumor outcomes, neuroimaging in epilepsy, and novel imaging methods for
localization of epileptogenic foci and networks. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological
Surgery (ABNS) and is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS).
