Derrick J. Warfield, BS RRT, CCP

Derrick earned his Bachelor of Science in Cardiopulmonary Science from Florida A&M University before continuing his studies in Perfusion Science at The Ohio State University and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. With over a decade of hands-on experience in high-stakes healthcare environments, Derrick has become a critical member of the medical team at University of Kentucky Medical Center where he provides expert care in the Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal ECMO.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Derrick plays an active role in administration and innovation. He has contributed to the Value Analysis Tech and Supply (VATS) Committee, where he has helped implement advanced mechanical circulatory equipment. Derrick has also designed and implemented specialized perfusion packs for both adult and pediatric patients, ensuring that the medical team has the necessary tools for every unique procedure.

Beyond his clinical duties, Derrick is an advocate for equipment quality and availability. He regularly coordinates with surgeons, materials management, and vendors to manage supply chains, handle backorders, and source alternative disposables. He has provided customers clinical support for products like the HeartMate 2, CentriMag console and AMG Oxygenator.

Derrick’s commitment to patient care, innovation, and continuous education has made him a trusted and integral part of the UK team, and he remains dedicated to advancing the field of cardiopulmonary science.
