Biosketch
Dr. Coughlin is an expert in the field of vascular biology and recognized for his landmark studies of how thrombin works. Among his contributions, Dr. Coughlin identified the protease-activated receptor family which regulate numerous biological processes and serve as the targets for a novel class of anti-platelet drugs under development for the treatment of the complications of atherosclerosis and acute coronary syndromes. Dr. Coughlin is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
