Biosketch
Dr. Bala Ambati earned his Bachelor's Degree in Biology at New York University. He later earned his Medical Degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After completing a residency in ophthalmology at Harvard University, he completed a fellowship in cornea and LASIK surgery at Duke University. He completed a PhD in Cell Biology at Medical College of Georgia, where he practiced for 5 years, prior to moving to University of Utah in 2008. He is currently a Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Corneal Research.
Dr. Ambati is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Association for Research in Vision & Ophthalmology. He has been awarded the Research to Prevent Blindness Physician-Scientist Award, the ARVO Award for Macular Degeneration Research, and has been recognized as a Health Care Hero in 2011 by Utah Business Monthly. His laboratory is a State of Utah Center of Excellence in Ocular Drug Delivery.
