Biosketch
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Suber S. Huang, M.D., received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, and his residency training at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. He completed a fellowship in surgical and medical retina at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami.
In 2004 Dr. Suber Huang was appointed Vice Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and received the Philip F. and Elizabeth G. Searle—Suber Huang MD Professorship in Ophthalmology. Dr. Huang is currently the Director of Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland, and he serves as Medical Director and Treasurer for University Ophthalmologists, Inc. He was appointed Professor of Ophthalmology at the Case Western Reserve University in 2003 and is a member of the full-time academic faculty. He served as Ophthalmology Residency Training Program Director from 2001-2003 and was President of the Cleveland Ophthalmological Society during 2003-2004. He also serves on the Executive Board of Directors and is the current Treasurer of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the world's largest organization of retinal specialists. Dr. Huang is active in research and is Director of the Retinal Diseases Image Analysis Reading Center (REDIARC) at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Dr. Huang is a member of the Diabetes Association of Cleveland, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, and the Vitreous Society Foundation. He serves on the editorial review staff for the journal Archives of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, and Current Eye Research and on the program committee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In September 2003, Dr. Huang was selected to participate on the National Eye Health Education Program advisory committee of the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health and also in 2003 was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Northeast Ohio Chapter.
In 2005, Dr. Huang received a Senior Honor Award by the American Society of Retina Specialists. He was selected as one of “The Best Doctors in America” by Best Doctors ® in 2003-2004, and was listed by Northern Ohio Live Magazine and Cleveland Magazine as one of the areas “Top Docs” in 2004. He was the recipient of the Top Doctors in America award in 1996 and received the Vitreous Society Honor Award in 1999. He also received the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Health Care Foundation of New Jersey 2000 Humanism in Medicine Award and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in 2002.
Dr. Huang is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and earned his MBA from the Case Weatherhead School of Management in 2004.
