Biosketch
Dr. Sally V. Mathias graduated from Father Muller Medical College in India and completed neurology residency at University of Kentucky, followed by a fellowship in epilepsy at Vanderbilt University. She is double board certified, in neurology and epilepsy. She is currently an Associate Professor at University of Kentucky and Associate Program Director of the Adult Neurology Residency. Dr Mathias holds a dual appointment at the Veterans Health Administration in Lexington, KY where she is the chief of neurology service and site director for neurology residency. She enjoys being a physician educator and has received several teaching and mentorship awards in the last 5 years including the 2023 A. B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award by the American Academy of Neurology.
Her clinical interests are epilepsy surgery, women’s epilepsy and epilepsy in the elderly. Dr. Mathias is actively involved in clinical research at the University. In 2020, she received the Kimford J. Meador award at the American Epilepsy Society annual meeting for her research in women’s epilepsy. In 2015, she received the Quality and Safety Award by the American Academy of Neurology and Young Investigator Award by the American Epilepsy Society. She is also a member of several committees within the university, VA and on a national level.
