Biosketch
Laura Hieronymus holds a doctorate in nursing practice, and is a master licensed diabetes educator, board-certified advanced diabetes manager, and certified diabetes care and education specialist, with over 30 years’ experience in diabetes care and education. Dr. Hieronymus is the Vice President of Health Care Programs at the American Diabetes Association. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor for the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
During her career, Dr. Hieronymus has served as local, regional, and national faculty for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES). She has also served Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as media expert and the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education as a content writer/reviewer. Additionally, Dr. Hieronymus has also served on a variety of Board of Director positions in health care, academic, and national associations.
She has received a number of awards including the ADCES’s National “Diabetes Educator of the Year” (2006), the “ADA’s Kentucky Hall of Fame Award” (2008), the “Outstanding Alumni Award” (2011), the “DNP Graduate Award” (2015) and the
Leadership Award (2019) for the University of Kentucky, College of Nursing. She, her husband, and daughters received “Family of the Year” (Hieronymus, 2016) for volunteer work with the ADA. Dr. Hieronymus is a Fellow of the ADCES.
Dr. Hieronymus has presented professional/consumer programs/webinars as a national, regional, and local speaker. She has authored numerous articles and publications and has also written or contributed to eight books. She has served as Editor for Practical Diabetology, Associate Editor for the nationally recognized peer reviewed journal ADA’s Diabetes Spectrum and contributing editor for the national diabetes consumer magazine, Diabetes Self-Management.
