Biosketch
Dr. James Patrick Murphy is a Louisville native and 1985 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is a former United States Naval Flight Surgeon, having served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He completed specialty training in Anesthesiology at the University of Louisville and founded a successful Anesthesia practice in Elizabethtown, KY. He left Kentucky to for subspecialty training in Pain Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he also served as an attending physician and instructor in Anesthesiology. Dr. Murphy went on to earn board certification in Addiction Medicine and then a Master of Medical Management (MMM) from the University of Southern California. He has been honored by the designation of Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (DFASAM) and represents ASAM on the Pain Care Task Force of American Medical Association. He is currently the President of the Kentucky Society of Addiction Medicine, Medical Director of Murphy Pain Center, and is on the gratis clinical faculty at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is board certified in Addiction Medicine, Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology.
