Biosketch
Dr. Gilliam earned an MD from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky, and an MPH in Epidemiology and Internal Health from the UAB School of Public Health in Birmingham, Alabama. He completed his clinical epilepsy and neurophysiology training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University, as well as at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was previously Director of the Epilepsy Programs at Washington University and Columbia University.
Research has focused on patient-oriented health outcomes, neuroimaging of epileptic brain injury, novel therapeutic strategies, and genomics of human epilepsy. Research projects have been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Epilepsy Society, and the Epilepsy Foundation.
Dr. Gilliam's Mid-Career Mentor Award from the NINDS supported collaboration with many junior investigators, an opportunity for which he is immensely grateful.
He has co-authored more than 150 papers and chapters. He has served on the editorial boards of Epilepsy and Behavior and Epileptic Disorders, and was a prior Co-Editor for Epilepsy Research.
