Biosketch
Dr. Goetz Kloecker grew up and studied internal medicine, nephrology and cardiology in Munich and Berlin, Germany, working in the old Charite’ hospital of East Berlin immediately following German reunification. He completed his internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at UofL, later serving as a tenured professor on UofL’s faculty until 2020. He was the Director of Thoracic Oncology and for ten years the Fellowship Program Director.
In 2020 he started at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky as co-director for thoracic oncology. His professional goal is to improve the lives of patients with lung cancer. He cofounded a chapter of the lung cancer alliance in Kentucky and was co-investigator in the LEADS project. He received the Kentucky Colonel award for his health-promoting community services. He helped to initiate lung cancer screening at UofL and conducted trials on immunotherapy as a breakthrough treatment for lung cancer. He was honored to receive The University President’s Distinguished Faculty Award and Louisville’s Top Doc Award.
He is editor in chief of “Lung Cancer: Standards of Care,” McGraw-Hill, 2020.
His research interests besides clinical trials include testing liquid biopsies to screen for lung cancer and to guide therapy.
