Biosketch
William N. O’Connor is a distinguished medical professional with over five decades of experience in pathology. He graduated from University College Cork, Ireland in 1972 with an MB BCh, BAO. He holds an MD, DABP, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).
Dr. O’Connor completed his postgraduate and residency training through the Yale Program (St. Mary’s CT) and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC. He has spent the majority of his career at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, KY, serving as a Professor of Anatomic Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. His expertise lies in pediatric and adult cardiovascular pathology.
Throughout his career, Dr. O’Connor has published over 90 full papers in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed more than 150 abstracts and presentations at regional, national, and international meetings.
From 1994 to 2019, Dr. O’Connor was an annual invited Visiting Professor at the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London, United Kingdom, where he taught cardiac pathology.
Since 1978, Dr. O’Connor has been an active member of the Irish and American Pediatric Society. He has served on its Scientific Committee and Council, and as its President, regularly attending annual meetings in North America and Ireland
