Biosketch
Michael J. Cavnar, MD received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He completed General Surgery Residency at New York University College of Medicine. He also completed a 3-year basic science lab fellowship as well as Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He received board certification in Surgical Oncology and joined the faculty at the University of Kentucky in 2017. He maintains an active clinical practice involving management of liver, biliary, pancreas, and upper GI malignancies, as well as intraabdominal sarcoma. He is also a clinical/translational researcher, with active projects studying gastrointestinal stromal tumor (2 institutional pilot grants), pancreatic cancer, hernia in GI cancers, and hepatic artery infusion pump chemotherapy. Dr. Cavnar is the primary investigator onsite for multiple cooperative group clinical trials, as well as the primary investigator for an investigator-initiated clinical trial of hepatic artery infusion pump chemotherapy for unresectable colorectal liver metastases and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.
