Biosketch
Judith has been a coding educator at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College since 2005 and an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer since 2012. She has taught medical terminology, medical billing, and medical coding classes. Her focus currently is medical coding classes for ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT/HCPCS. She is a member of the Adjunct Faculty Council and Office System Technology Advisory Council at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and is employed full-time for a large, nationally recognized hospital as a medical coder.
She holds memberships with American Health Information Management Association and American Academy of Professional Coders.
Judith is an accomplished credentialed medical coder and auditor maintaining certifications with AHIMA and AAPC. She achieved the AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer status and has maintained this qualification annually since 2012. Other achievements include certifications by demonstrating data quality and integrity skills and mastery-level proficiency in coding and auditing. Certifications include AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCSP), AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC), AAPC Certified Outpatient Coder (COC formally the CPC-H), AAPC Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), and AAPC Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC).
She has 27 years of experience in various health care roles as a HIM medical coding manager, coding consultant, auditor, educator, medical assisting in occupational health and family practice, medical biller and coder for physician-professional based services for all specialties; Emergency Department coding, charge reconciliation, audit and assign ED E/M Level; medical coding, abstracting, assigning MS-DRG for Hospital Inpatient services; and Hospital Outpatient coding and abstracting which includes ancillary, surgery and observation services.
She has a published textbook for higher education for Hospital Billing UB-04 available through Cengage Publishing. Judith has been a Technical Reviewer and Collaborator for Cengage Publishing for various medical coding, medical terminology, medical auditing, and compliance textbooks with experience in coding and abstracting utilizing all code sets; ICD versions 9 and 10, HCPCS Level I and II.
She is an AHIMA Volunteer and participates in Item Writing workshops developing and writing national coding exam test questions for CCA, CCSP, CCS; Exam Development Committees for CCA, CCS, CCSP; CCSP Workshop Analysis, Global Standard Setting Study for CCA, CCSP, CCS; and technical reviewer for quality and accuracy of national exams.
Kentucky Community & Technical Community College EPIC Learn On Demand for Medical Information Technology developed three online classes which includes Hospital Inpatient coding, Physician-Based Outpatient coding, and Medications.
