Biosketch
Dr. Wasson teaches in the graduate program, conducts research and serves as a clinical ethics consultant. She leads the efforts of the Assessing Clinical Ethics Skills (ACES) Tool for training and evaluating clinical ethics consultants and the corresponding research studies.
Dr. Wasson earner her PhD in philosophy from the Whitefield Institute, Oxford and the Open University in England and her Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Wasson was one of the first Fellows in The Ethics of Prevention and Public Health in the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program at The National Cancer Institute and a Visiting Researcher at The Kennedy Institute for Ethics, Georgetown University. She was Chief of the Clinical Ethics Service and Assistant Professor in the Department of Critical Care at MD Anderson Cancer Center and The University of Texas. She also worked as a clinical ethicist with a National Health Service palliative care team in central London for five years. For the past twenty years, she has taught a wide range of health professionals and students.
She has served on multiple committees in the US and UK including Institutional Review Boards, ethics committees, the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities Clinical Ethics Consultation Affairs Committee, the Department of Health and Human Services Working Group on the Public Health Impact of Direct-to-Consumer Marketing of Genetic Tests. Currently, she is the ethicist for the National Cancer Institute Central Institutional Review Board for Cancer Prevention and Control.
