Biosketch
Dr. Jin Woo Chung, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Since joining the faculty in November 2022, he has actively contributed to advanced heart failure, transplant programs, lung transplant care, and the ECMO steering committee at UK HealthCare.
Dr. Chung earned his Ph.D. in Medicine from the University of Ulsan, Asan Medical Center, in Seoul, Korea, where he conducted groundbreaking research on the pathogenesis of ascending aortic aneurysms and xenotransplantation. He also holds an M.D. from Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea. His extensive clinical experience includes serving as a Clinical Associate in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and as Clinical Assistant Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine.
With a robust background in research, Dr. Chung has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and presented internationally on topics such as advanced surgical techniques, mitral valve repair, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). His dedication to advancing cardiothoracic surgery is reflected in his ongoing efforts to improve patient outcomes through innovative practices and collaboration. Proficient in English, Korean, and Japanese, Dr. Chung brings a global perspective to his work in the field.
