Biosketch
Dr. Justine Welsh is a child/adolescent and adult addiction psychiatrist in Emory’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and is the founder and Director of the Emory Healthcare Addiction Services. She is also the Medical Director of the Addiction Alliance of Georgia, a collaborative between Emory University and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation developed to expand addiction-related clinical, research, and educational services across the state of Georgia.
Dr. Welsh’s research has focused on evidence-based treatments for adolescents and young adults with substance use disorders. She has been the recipient of award and grant funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. Dr. Welsh is also an active advocate for enhancing access to quality comprehensive treatment for individuals with substance use disorders. She has served as a board member of the Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, and on a national level co-chaired the Public Policy Committee for the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Welsh also serves as an expert consultant to the Centers for Disease Control focusing on reducing addiction-related stigma and enhancing medical education.
