Biosketch
Dr. Kawabori is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
He earned his medical degree and licensure from the University of Kobe, Japan, where he also completed extensive training in renowned medical programs across the country. Further advancing his expertise, Dr. Kawabori pursued an advanced fellowship in adult general cardiac surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston. He then specialized in thoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) surgery during a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He later served as an attending cardiac surgeon at Tufts Medical Center, Tufts University, in Boston.
A prolific contributor to the field, Dr. Kawabori has authored over 100 published articles and book chapters. He is a sought-after speaker at national and regional conferences on cardiac surgery, transplantation, and artificial organ technology, frequently presenting on heart transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiogenic shock. His research is focused on the development of next-generation mechanical circulatory devices, and he has also served as a surgical consultant for Abiomed, a leader in heart pump technology.
Dr. Kawabori’s clinical interests encompass heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, cardiogenic shock, general cardiac surgery, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). With his extensive experience, he remains dedicated to advancing both the science and practice of cardiothoracic surgery to improve patient outcomes.
