Biosketch
Rishi K. Wadhera, M.D., M.P.P., M.Phil. is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the Associate Director of the Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Center for Outcomes Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and a practicing cardiologist at BIDMC. As the Associate Director of the Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Center for Outcomes Research at BIDMC, Dr. Wadhera leads an NIH-funded research program focused on healthcare policy, health equity, and population health. His work leverages causal inference statistical methods to understand how state and federal health policies impact access, care quality, and health outcomes. Dr. Wadhera has authored >190 peer-reviewed publications to date, many of which have appeared in leading journals (New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, BMJ, Health Affairs). He is the PI of 3 R01 grants from the NIH, the American Heart Association Established Investigator Award, as well as several other extramural grants. He has mentored >30 medical students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows, and is a recipient of the Harvard Medical School Excellence in Mentoring Award. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC), as well as on standing expert advisory panels for the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER), the National Committee of Quality Assurance, and American Heart Association (AHA) Policy Statements focused on value-based care. Dr. Wadhera received his M.D. from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine as well as an M.Phil. in Public Health as a Gates Cambridge Scholar from the University of Cambridge. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiovascular medicine fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and during this time, also received a Master’s in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
