Dr. Paul Sloan is Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky, and Director of Regional Anesthesia and the Acute Pain Service for the University of Kentucky Healthcare System. He is immediate past Program Director for the Pain Medicine Fellowship, and Board certified in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine and Palliative Medicine. He has focused on the management of cancer and chronic pain (100 papers) throughout his career, with a particular interest in opioid pharmacology and spinal analgesics. His research has focused on the treatment of chronic and cancer pain, including opioids and adjuvant analgesics. Dr. Sloan has been founder and Chair of The International Conference on Opioids held in Boston for the past 11 years. Dr. Sloan is Emeritus Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Opioid Management, and serves on the editorial board for several pain journals. Dr. Sloan served on the Exam Committee for the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and also with the ABMS Palliative Medicine Exam Committee.
