The grandson of poor Jewish immigrants from eastern Europe, Dr. Stuart Tobin went on to a distinguished career as a central Kentucky dermatologist and medical educator.
Dr. Tobin, who has called Richmond home for 38 years, is now the division chief of dermatology, the Ullin Leavell professor of dermatology and an associate professor of surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he has received several teaching honors. He moved to UK after maintaining a private dermatology practice for 30-plus years.
Dr. Tobin has a long record of community service. He was also the founding father and first chairman of the board for the Madison County Public Library. He went on to chair the Advisory Council for the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives for seven years and was a member and chair of the Madison County Board of Health for 32 years. He even found time to author a book, “Rash Decisions and Growth Experiences from the Best Little Warthouse in Kentucky,” which chronicles his humorous experiences with patients, peers and family, mostly in Madison County.
