Biosketch
Dr. Chen is a surgeon, author of the New York Times bestseller Final Exam: A Surgeon’s Reflections on Mortality and an online columnist for The New York Times. A National Magazine Award nominated writer, she has been published in numerous publications, such as The Virginia Quarterly Review, The Washington Post and Prevention magazine. Dr. Chen is a sought-after, renowned speaker, frequently presenting to medical and general audiences across the country.
Dr. Chen graduated from Harvard University and Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and completed her surgical training at Yale University, the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute and UCLA, where she later became a faculty member in the Department of Surgery. In 1999, she was named the UCLA Outstanding Physician of the Year.
