Biosketch
Leslie Scott received her undergraduate degree in nursing from Gardner Webb University and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kentucky. She completed her doctorate degree in nursing, also from UK, in 2004. Her dissertation work focused on the presence of acanthosis nigricans and other risk factors associated with Type 2 diabetes among elementary school-aged children. Dr. Scott is an associate professor in the College of Nursing, where she serves as coordinator for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner BSN-PhD Track. She is a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner with more than 20 years' experience as a certified diabetes educator. Her clinical practice is in the pediatric endocrinology clinic at UK. She has provided care to children with diabetes for more than 18 years and has attended numerous diabetes camps over the years. Dr. Scott received the Excellence in Clinical Practice Award from the College of Nursing in 2007. She received the Outstanding Community Service Award-Camp Hendon from the Bluegrass Leadership Council in 2006, and Volunteer of the Year Award from the American Diabetes Association in 2002. She also received the Diabetes Educator of the Year Award in 1999 and 2003 from the Kentucky Chapter of the American Diabetes Association and Kentucky Lion's Club.
